Buenos Aires Province Completes Review of Three Major Infrastructure Projects

Public input on a planned second carriageway along provincial route 11 between Mar de Ajó and Pinamar closed on July 9, clearing the way for the province to seek an environmental declaration and launch bidding. The stretch covers 47.2 kilometres and forms part of a larger road programme backed by the Inter-American Development Bank.

Once the environmental approval is secured, the highway project can advance to tender. The same process now applies to two separate rail upgrades submitted by the Railway Infrastructure Administration. Both initiatives sit inside a 1.3 trillion peso investment plan approved in 2024 and carry individual budgets of 110 billion pesos each. One covers track and level-crossing work on the San Martín line across six municipalities; the other targets 19.9 kilometres of the Sarmiento line with a 20-month execution window.
Provincial authorities have already signalled that the rail packages will move into detailed design and contractor selection once the consultation period ends. Local transport users in the affected corridors can expect updates on temporary service changes once contracts are awarded.
Water treatment pilot enters design phase
A parallel consultation concerns a pilot drinking-water treatment plant inside the existing Patagonia facility. The unit will test processes that supply Bahía Blanca, General Daniel Cerri, Ing. White, Grünbein, Punta Alta and the Puerto Belgrano Naval Base. Operated by Aguas Bonaerenses and supported by Corporación Andina de Fomento financing, the pilot is intended to refine design parameters before any larger expansion at the site.
Project managers say the next milestone is the selection of optimal treatment methodologies, after which construction of the test plant can begin. Residents in the Bahía Blanca region will be notified of any short-term supply adjustments during the trial period.
With all three consultations now concluded or imminent, provincial offices are expected to publish timelines for environmental rulings and bid calls within the coming weeks. Interested contractors and suppliers should monitor official gazette notices for the formal tender documents.
