Ministry Officials Highlight Literacy Platform Enrollment and Sports Mandates in Buenos Aires Schools

The Ministry of Education of Buenos Aires launched the free + Alfabetización digital platform, with over 3,000 teachers enrolled to support literacy and digital skills in 1st and 2nd grade classrooms.

Officials have described the platform as a direct response to the need for structured digital tools in early grades, linking it to broader efforts by the Technology and Educational Innovation Office to distribute materials such as the Enseñar y aprender en entornos virtuales notebook and infographics on online information searches.

Physical education requirements draw renewed attention

National education decrees make physical education mandatory across Argentine schools, requiring each institution to form its own student sports team. Officials at the Ministry have noted that this rule applies uniformly, including at public high schools such as Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires, which runs programs in track and field, soccer, rugby, basketball, swimming and volleyball.

Private institutions including United High School integrate rugby, soccer, hockey and athletics into the curriculum at every grade level, supplemented by swimming and tennis. Buenos Aires English High School, founded in 1884, continues to operate programs that trace back to its early introduction of football, cricket, swimming, tennis and boxing.

Digital resources expand access for teachers and students

The city's Ministry of Education maintains a digital library containing over 40,000 resources, including technical, textbook and literary titles that require a @bue.edu.ar account for access. The Contenedor Escolar Digital supplies additional didactic material across all subjects and levels alongside selected digital books.

These offerings align with the Ministry's stated goal of strengthening information literacy and digital communication competencies, as defined by UNESCO guidelines on safe use of technology. Schools are encouraged to combine the new platform with existing interscholastic competitions in volleyball, soccer and basketball that follow regional schedules.
