Ualá Stands Out as Buenos Aires Startup Leader Amid National Ecosystem Growth
The Buenos Aires-based fintech firm secured the region's largest venture round in three years while the city maintains its position as Argentina's top tech hub.
How we reported this

Buenos Aires-based fintech Ualá completed a $300 million funding round in 2024 that ranked as the largest venture capital investment in Latin America over the prior three years.
The round underscores how local companies continue to draw foreign capital even as Argentina faces economic pressures and government reductions in science and education spending under President Javier Milei. Investors including Jaguar Ventures have kept commitments to the sector, allowing selected firms to expand operations without relying solely on domestic resources.
City Rankings and Sector Strength
StartupBlink currently places Buenos Aires first in Argentina and 77th worldwide among startup cities. The metro area contains more than 1,200 technology companies and employs over 115,000 software developers. Fintech leads local activity and sits at 42nd globally, with AgTech and Edtech together accounting for roughly 30 percent of tracked startups in the city.
These figures come from ecosystem tracking that also records 12 unicorns created nationwide, with Ualá remaining the only active unicorn headquartered in Buenos Aires and valued at $2.75 billion following its Series E close.
Innovation Park and Program Support
The Innovation Park, which opened in May 2023, now houses 34 startups selected through the +54 Lab process inside a coworking space reserved for science and technology ventures. City programs such as IncuBAte and StartUP BA, along with accelerators NXTP Labs and Wayra, provide additional pathways for early-stage founders to access mentoring and capital.
Foreign venture interest has sustained momentum where public budgets have tightened. Argentine startups overall captured $418 million in 2024, with Buenos Aires accounting for the majority of that total through deals such as Ualá's.
Local operators continue to monitor incoming capital flows and park tenancy applications to gauge whether the same level of external backing holds through the remainder of the year.
